You live and you think you know one thing until you learn another. Guilt can be a nasty, ugly bitch, but it can also pull people together.
Blurb:
New York Times bestselling author K. Bromberg is back with an all new second-chance, standalone hockey romance.
At first, the request seemed simple—sign a new athlete to the agency.
Then I found out the new athlete was none other than the most wanted man in hockey today: Hunter Maddox
Gifted. Sexy. At the top of his game. And the only man who has ever broken my heart.
If signing him will help save our family business, I’ll swallow my pride and do what’s asked.
But when it becomes clear his uncharacteristic antics off the ice are a hint of something deeper, keeping things strictly professional between us becomes more than complicated. But I know better than to cross that line.
I’ll never date a client. Not even for him.

Win the Stanley Cup and do it before time runs out.
Not a small feat, but it’s what’s motivated me since the start of my career.
And time is running out.
Enter Dekker Kincade.
Feisty. Dogged. Damn gorgeous. The one I let get away
I have no idea why she’s traveling with the team, but hell if resisting her is going to be easy.
But I have a job to do, and I refuse to lose sight of that end game. Even if she confuses me. Even if she sees parts of me I’ve hidden from the world.
I can’t lose focus. Not even for her.

REVIEW
My God, K. Bromberg... just destroy my heart completely and hand me back the shattered pieces, why don't you?
She's done it... made me a blubbering mess while reading, barely able to even see the words through the tears. Seriously, it's really hard to make me cry with a book. Like, I remember the last time I shed a tear was while reading about Coltons past. That was four years ago! And let me tell you: I have read a lot of books since then but the Driven series is still one of my favs.
Normally, Sports Romance is not really my kind of book genre. Probably because im the least sporty person ever but from time to time a book like this one falls into my lap (or kindle) and I ask myself why don't I read this genre again?! This book though, it slayed me completely.
Reading about the struggles Hunter had to face and the shit-hand he was dealt by fate completely broke my heart. On top of being a professional athlete, which always comes with a lot of pressure from all sides, Hunter was also carrying the weight of the world on his shoulders.
Dekker is a sports agent, assigned by her father to recruit star hockey player Hunter Maddox in order to save their struggling agency. Hunter and Dekker had an affair in the past which ended because both of them were too scared to admit that they were starting to develop feelings for each other. What Dekker didn't count on was that three years later that chemistry was as strong and sizzling as ever.
I loved that Dekker was really perceptive and the only one to realize that there must be something going on in Hunter's personal life, based on his angry behaviour on and off the ice. Even though Hunter is smashing all the records, Dekker was still determined to get to the bottom of what's tormenting him.
She slowly starts to break down his walls and get behind his angry facade while at the same time struggling with her own resurfacing feelings for Hunter. Torn between her reputation as an agent and her heart, she doesn't really know how to handle the situation. That's when we see the amazing bond with Dekker and her sisters. Even though they banter and insult each other, when it comes down to it they're rock-solid and there for each other.
The moment when Dekker finally breaks and confesses everything to Hunter was so heart-wrenching.
And Hunter... reading the scenes with his twin brother Jonah slayed me emotionally. When they finally come face to face again... god I couldn't even imagine how that must feel, to see your twin brother like that, knowing there was nothing you could do about it.
Not gonna lie... most of the book I was really angry with Hunter's parents. I realize their situation wasn't easy but I'll never understand how their parents could put one child on a pedestal while the other seemed almost inconsequential. (There's that word again... If you read the Driven series you know what I mean *wink wink*) It really wasn't fair to either twin brother how their parents handled the situation. The only thing Hunter craved was his father's approval and to acknowledge everything Hunter accomplished in his hockey career for his brother.
What I loved most was that once Hunter opened up to Dekker and told her everything, it went uphill for them. There was no unnecessary drama between the couple and no bullshit, which I appreciate immensely.
I don't think I have to tell you that this book was a 5-star read for me and definitely one of my favourites this year. Hunter and Dekker's story broke my heart to pieces and mended it again in the best way possible. It has been a long time since a book made me that emotional while reading it. That's no easy task, believe me!
So, thank you K. Bromberg for writing such beautiful stories. I can't wait to dive into the next one, Hard to Hold.
